The quarter back asked me out to prom. When I said no, he asked me who could be better. I went with a lovely man with Down's Syndrome, I don't regret a thing.

In a perfect world, this would be the way that everyone thought; not because they're doing a good deed, but because they're choosing to view another human being as just that; a person just like you and me. We all know, however, that this isn't always the reality.
How many times have you felt different, alone, disrespected, bullied, or misunderstood? At times, these are things that many people diagnosed with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder can and will experience. We are here to help you, your family and friends understand the complexities that accompany this diagnosis. Through education, we will teach you to utilize various techniques that will help to modify communication, behaviors and social skills.
At Truce & Surrender, you will learn the use of positive and negative reinforcement, how to build communication skills, as well as how to navigate social situations and settings. We help in understanding how to design creative strategies to help structure your day, to decrease over stimulation and to change patterned routines.
We are here to empower you and your loved ones. This is a collaborative journey, not one that you have to take alone. As a parent, sibling or caregiver, you need strength and support as well. This will not only help to ease your mind, but also guide you in things such as setting up your house environment in an organized manner that cultivates easy transitioning within the home and community. Most importantly, we work on how you can communicate with your loved one using person centered language.
No one is less than anyone else. We are here to reinforce that, and help you every step of the way.
